Imagine Nature as Your Neighbor
How great is it to walk out your front door, down your street and onto a trail that meanders around natural lakes? Maybe you’ll hear a beaver slap its tail or watch a raft of ducklings follow their mom. Take your kids and their fishing poles and see what they might catch.
Or hop on your bike and get your heart pounding as you feel the cool morning air wash over your face as you pedal the four miles of trails within Centerra.
Stop in at High Plains Environmental Center and be inspired to do all that you can to keep nature a part of your daily life.
These are the kind of good-for-your-soul experiences you can have nearly every day at Centerra. It’s truly exceptional ─ and right outside your door.
High Plains Environmental Center
One of the benefits of living or working at Centerra is that you can grow a better understanding of sustainable living and ecology with the guidance of High Plains Environmental Center (HPEC).
With a mission of restoring nature where we live, HPEC invites you to join them as they study ospreys, lark buntings and wood ducks ─ or more than 100 bird species they have observed in Centerra’s open spaces. (Take a minute to check out their live barn owl cam!)
You might be lucky enough to see a pelican, bullfrog or red fox as you walk or bike HPEC’s meandering trails around Houts Reservoir and Equalizer Lake. You can learn about xeriscaping and your kids and their classmates can learn how to attract bees and butterflies with a pollinator garden during an HPEC field trip.
This amazing community resource, formed by a partnership with McWHINNEY and McStain Neighborhoods, is one more reason that living at Centerra is exceptional.
