HPEC is partnering with the Butterfly Pavilion and the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project (MLMP)\u00a0 to bring this important citizen science opportunity to the communities near HPEC. Created to inform monarch conservation, the MLMP focuses on understanding the distribution and abundance of breeding monarchs throughout the US and Canada.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

We are looking for volunteers to work with the Monarch Larva Monitoring Project (MLMP) https:\/\/monarchjointventure.org\/mlmp to search for monarchs along the Front Range. MLMP volunteers spend
\n1-2 hours in the field each week monitoring milkweed for monarchs. Data from the project have been used in numerous scientific publications and are informing our understanding of monarchs\u2019 habitat and conservation needs.<\/p>\n

Training: Typical MLMP training workshops are day-long and are conducted face-to-face; however, during quarantine, we have pivoted to a new hybrid format.
\n\u2022 Prior to the workshop, participants preview online training videos (~2 hours)
\n\u2022 Part I: Sunday May 2nd from 11:00am \u2013 1:00pm, participants join the **virtual**<\/p>\n

MLMP Training Workshop using Zoom to review monitoring protocols, learn about native milkweeds, discuss site selection, and explore how data are being used in scientific research.
\n\u2022 Part II: Saturday May 8th, from 2:00pm-4:00pm, participants meet outdoors at the High Plains Environmental Center in Loveland, CO to practice protocols and answer questions. Additional practice sessions at other outdoor locations may also be available.<\/p>\n

Details of follow-up practice sessions to be worked out during the Zoom Workshop. We hope you can participate and help us help the monarchs!<\/p>\n
