Falling into Cooler Seasons: House Prep 101

The foggy mornings have greeted us and sent the first bursts of brisk, refreshing autumn air. While some people are hanging on to that last streak of warm Loveland, Colorado weather and others are anxiously awaiting snow flurries, we all know that the season change is inevitable. From exterior prep to indoor décor swaps, we have listed out everything you need to brave the colder weather with ease. On top of it all, we’re here to show you that just because you might need an extra layer (or two) of clothing, there are still plenty of fun community events and activities!

Get the Winter Shield Ready – No matter how many times the winter season approaches, we still find ourselves in disbelief that it is already here (how have we not figured that out yet?). Luckily, you still have plenty of time to take preventative measures to ensure your house is ready to take on the weather changes.

  • Clean out the Gutters – We know the job isn’t glamorous, but you will prevent bigger problems down the line if you take care of this now. While you’re up there, check the roof for summer hail damage, possible leaks or any other issues.
  • Turn off outdoor water sources – Often overlooked, this simple step can save you and your bank account from major damages. Drain sprinkler lines, remove hoses, and keep faucets covered to prevent freezing.
  • Clean the outdoor furniture – Trust us, it is way easier to clean off that BBQ sauce or s’more residue while it’s still nice out rather than having it sit in storage and soak into the cushions through the winter.
  • Stock Up – It’s always the worst when you need to shovel the driveway and all of the sudden remember that your shovel went kaput last season. Visit your local home improvement store and get the items before the prices skyrocket when they’re in high demand.

Swap Out the Interior – Fall prep isn’t just for the exterior. While we wouldn’t recommend changing your exterior paint to orange to match the colorful leaves, we do recommend sprucing up your interior to match the new color scheme of the season. Embrace your own unique style and trendy eye to impress your guests at your new home in Loveland, Colorado this fall! Need some inspiration? Skiing, snowboarding, sledding, snowmobiling and snowshoeing are just a few of the many activities you have to look forward this season. While you wait for the first snow fall, mark your calendars for upcoming events in the area that keep the party rolling despite the cold mountain air settling in.

  • Loveland Farmer’s Market – Take a stroll through the Loveland Farmer’s Market and check out what’s in season. What’s better than fresh, local produce?  This event takes place every Sunday during the month of September, be sure to mark your calendars and stop by before it ends!
  • Food Truck Wednesdays – Live music, activities for kids of all ages, movies and great food. What more could you need? The round-up occurs every Wednesday in September so be sure to take a break from dish duty and indulge in some delicious grub!
