McWHINNEY to Offer Reward on Holiday Lighting Theft at Centerra

Published: January 12, 2008

LOVELAND, CO – January 11, 2008 – McWHINNEY is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for the theft of holiday LED lights in recent weeks at Centerra. To date, more than $7,000 worth of lighting has been stolen from displays at various Centerra locations. In addition, the thefts have caused damage to the some of the remaining displays as well as to the trees and landscaped areas.

“We are fully prepared to pursue all charges against anyone responsible for the theft and resulting damage,” states Phil Hodgkinson, Vice President of Property Management, McWHINNEY.

According to the Loveland Police Department, this kind of theft is a class four felony that carries the possibility of fines, restitution, and jail time. Anyone with information about the theft should contact the Loveland Police Department at 970-667-2151.

“Our intention is to empower our community and the guests of Centerra to protect the beauty that Centerra brings to Northern Colorado,” comments Hodgkinson. “The lighting displays are something that makes Centerra a special place for the holidays and that brightens the Northern Colorado evenings through the celebration of the Sweetheart Festival, an event that is important to the entire Loveland community. The lights are Centerra’s contribution to that great tradition. Our hope is that our guests and residents who enjoy the lights will keep their eyes and ears open and play a significant role in both protecting the displays and helping to apprehend those responsible for the thefts.”

“These holiday LED lights are only for commercial use because they use special power adaptors that screw on to the LED string,” comments Nate Webb, Co-Owner, Blazen Illuminations. “They cannot be plugged into standard outlets.”

In addition, the LED lights are specially colored with a mix of shades of blue, and custom built for this display. These lights are not available for purchase anywhere in the country except through Blazen Illuminations, which makes them rather obvious when on other properties. Unlike other commercial projects, the holiday LED lights used on the Centerra properties are not thrown away. The lights will be use for the next 15 to 20 years.
